We’re here to help you to look after your own health and wellbeing

Thank you for visiting the Wellbeing College website. We hope that you find it informative, helpful and easy to use.

We are here to guide you and support you to improve your wellbeing, whatever stage you are at. We have gathered together lots of information about courses, activities and groups that are happening around Bath and North East Somerset to support people’s wellbeing. We hope that you will find something here that interests you, whether it be a one-off activity or a longer term course spread over several weeks. Most of our courses are free and are offered to B&NES residents who are aged 16 and over, or people who are registered with a GP in B&NES.

If you feel rather overwhelmed by the number of courses to choose from why not give us a ring and one of our advisers will help guide you to make an informed choice.

If you would like some 1:1 support and guidance we can offer you a free Wellbeing Advice session. Our adviser can meet up with you for an informal chat at a suitable location near to where you live.

How can the 5 Ways to Wellbeing help you?

5 simple steps you can take to improve your wellbeing.

Research shows that if you take care of 5 key areas in your life then you can maintain positive wellbeing.

Connect:

Connect with others; not only family and friends but also neighbours, colleagues and even pets. The           connections that we make can be casual but it is   important to also establish meaningful relationships.

Be Active:

Regular exercise is important, however it’s about finding something right for you that fits into your life. There’s no need to sign up for the Bath Half but you might be interested in joining an   allotment or going walking.

Give:

Research into actions for promoting   happiness has shown that an act of     kindness once a week over a six week period is       associated with an increase in wellbeing. The bottom line is that helping others makes us feel good! You could try something simple like smiling at a stranger,   helping a neighbour or volunteering your time.

Take Notice:

Take Notice reminds us to slow down, be in the   moment and appreciate what we have.

In our busy lives, technology and the pressures of everyday life make it easy to “do” instead of “be”.

A good way to be in the moment is focusing on your breath. Try a mindfulness class to develop this skill.

Keep Learning:

Learning something new keeps your brain active and improves your self confidence. It is important to keep ourselves motivated and interested by life. This doesn't mean that you have to take on a formal qualification but perhaps try something new like salsa dancing, take up an instrument or perhaps you could rediscover an old interest.

Come to one of our FREE 5 Ways to Wellbeing workshops around B&NES and look at these 5 key areas in further detail to find ways you can introduce changes into your life.

What have you got to lose?!
