Day One: We explore; what professional & personal boundaries are and how to establish them, keeping safe both physically and in terms of personal information, what is meant by confidentiality and data protection and how they help keep everyone safe, the importance of an inclusive workplace and expectations in regards to agreements between volunteers and the organisation.
Day Two: We explore; what recovery means, what does a good mentoring relationship look like and what helps us establish this? Aspirations & goals and how we can support and encourage someone to make positive changes including; person-centred planning, a variety of tools such as; SMARTER & PATH tool, listening and conversation skills, managing challenging situations. We then use case studies to bring together all of the learning.
All mentors or volunteers who offer 1:1 support should themselves have quality support from the organisation they volunteer for, you will learn about the processes and tools St Mungo's has in place to support its peer mentors who have experience of living with mental health challenges.
